This fast-paced and upbeat intensive will build skills and confidence in dance, improv, clowning, and more!
For this production, we have done away with the hippies. Instead, our production will be set in a not-so-far-off, post-apocalyptic future in which a group of young people takes refuge in a neglected church. There, they bond as a community and rediscover the Christ story through music, dance, and unforgettable performances.
More than age or experience, we're looking for students who are willing to invest 110%, holding nothing back. In this show, every character is a lead role, so every actor must be reasonably comfortable in the spotlight. The success of the show depends upon the willingness of each actor to rock out, try new things, and "just go with it!"
Conceived and originally directed by John Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, GODSPELL is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time. This is the revised 2012 version, incorporating some of the changes and updated references used in the 2011-2012 Broadway Production.
Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz, GODSPELL boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit, "Day By Day." As the cast performs "Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All For The Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side," the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life.
Drawing from various theatrical traditions, such as clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville, GODSPELL is a groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love.
